Game 1 Summary :
Liverpool were without 4 key players for the Double header away to the Manchester A's. Big thanks to John Gill for turning up at short notice despite a painful rib injury.
Martin Godsall teamed up with standby catcher Ian Smith for the first time this season. Ian, known better for his pitching, stood in for the absent Paul Mason and put in a solid performance. A couple of base hit early in the first inning were soon cashed in as Manchester gained a two run advantage. The Trojans were pinned down most of the game due to the strong pitching of Sean McNeilage.
The game turned into a pitching duel as Godsall and McNeilage battled it out. Some strong defensive work from Dave Martin-Baez, Paul Smith and Harry Wren on the infield kept the game within reach for the Trojans.
Successive walks for Godsall and Ian Smith in the sixth, set the table for Paul Smith, who drove in a mighty 3 run homer over the centre field fence to give the Trojans the lead. The lead was short lived however, as an infield error allowed the A's the even the score.
The Trojans went down in order in the top of the seventh as Manchester sensed the victory. A base hit, a stolen base and an infield error allowed the game winning run to get to third. A perfectly executed bunt from Damien Goodall brought home the winning run for the jubilant A's to inflict Liverpool's first defeat of the season.

Game 2 Summary :
What a difference warm sunshine makes to the mid game break. The Trojans started with full tums and a hunger to avenge the defeat of the first game. A series of walks by A's starter Ben Pearson allowed Liverpool to jump to a four run advantage in the top of the first. Godsall managed to strike out the side but not before the A's replied with three of their own.
The game remained scoreless for the next three innings as Ian Smith took over on the mound from Godsall. Smith struck out 7 of the first 9 batters he faced, ending the game with 9 in 5 inning's work.
The Trojans came alive in the fifth, walks for John Gill and Rob Alger were drove in by Dave Martin-Baez, Martin Gosall and Paul Smith. This brought on a change of pitcher for the A's, but the Trojans were unstoppable.
A six run seventh inning by the Trojans effectively killed off any ambition the A's had of sweeping the league leaders. Both games were played to a high standard and a credit to both teams.
The Trojans now have a week off before traveling to Bolton to take on the Robots of Doom.
