Game 1 Summary :
The long awaited match up between the top two teams in the northern conference proved to be a classic pitching duel, with ex GB pitchers Gavin Marshall going head to head with Liverpool's Martin Godsall. The game was a must win game for the Trojans if they were to have any hope of catching the league leading Tigers.

Although Marshall has been out of baseball for six seasons, he still had the power and control to dominate the Trojans offence, giving up just four hits with ten strikeouts. Godsall was also on top of his game, holding down a strong hitting side, backed up by a strong Trojans defense.

The turning point in the game came in the fifth inning when a stolen base by Harrogate was ruled safe when it was clearly out. This allowed a runner into a scoring position for the first time in the game. A base hit by ex Liverpool player Rob Denham drove in the run.

Liverpool's heads seem to drop a little as a couple of errors were punished by the Tigers, who clearly had the upper hand at this point. Two more runs in the sixth gave the Trojans a mountain to climb, unable to get to the pitching of Marshall.

In spite of having lost the opening game, the Trojans can still take some pride for the way the team played and conducted itself against a stronger opposition.

Game 2 Summary :

With Harrogate crowned northern champs, the second game of the double header was nothing more than a formality for the Tigers. Liverpool however, still had a battle on their hands with second place still to be decided between the Trojans and the Manchester A's.

Liverpool got off to a great start with an early two run lead, Paul Smith and Chris Gary driving in the runs. Liverpool's lead didn't last too long however, as a wild pitch from Ian Smith and a passed ball by stand -in catcher, Dave Martin-Baez, in the second saw Liverpool's lead quickly erased.

It was the Trojans defense that kept the game close as Alan Alger and Chris Gary in the outfield, and Harry Wren at third making outstanding plays.

Sadly it was errors in the fifth inning that contributed to Liverpool's defeat. A couple of infield errors and a couple of balls by the catcher, before you know it, you're playing catch up.

Both game were still played at a very good standard, however it just wasn't to be Liverpool's day. It seemed every hit by the Trojans found a Tiger on the end of it.
