Harrogate Tigers win AAA Championship

The Harrogate Tigers were crowned as the BBF's 2009 AAA League Champions on Sunday, September 6 at Harrogate.

Over the weekend, the Tigers they won all three of their games, first against the Southampton Mustangs by a score of 11-4, followed by a 15-3 mercy-rule win against Essex Arrows.

This was the first league game lost by the Arrows in 2009 as they came into the postseason with a perfect 25-0 regular season record. The Arrows had kept that streak alive earlier on Saturday when they scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a dramatic walk-off win against the Liverpool Trojans.

That pitted Liverpool against Southampton in an elimination game, which Southampton won 11-5.

Southampton next had to play Essex Arrows, with the winner going to the final against the Harrogate Tigers. Southampton proved too strong for the Arrows on this occasion, winning 19-8.

In the Final, Harrogate produced another dominant performance and secured the 2009 title with a 13-3 victory in front of their home fans at Tiger Field.
