Game 1 Summary :
For the third time in four years, the Liverpool Trojans qualified for the country's premier club competition, British Baseball's Final Four. The Trojans took on the London Mets in a single seven inning game to decide who would go forward to the final. The winners would take on victors of the other semi final between the Menwith Hill Patriots and the defending champions, Croydon Pirates.

Martin Godsall , pitching for the Trojans, showed why he is still regarded as one of the best pitchers in the country, putting on a display of controlled pitching to subdue a strong hitting Mets line-up.

The Trojans got off to a dream start against Met's pitcher, Channel 5's. Josh Chetwin. A base hit for Ian Smith, gave Mike Waisome a chance to drive in the first run of the game. Liverpool held onto their slender lead for most of the game thanks to some solid defense, however the Met's remained a constant threat.

Liverpool continued to defend well, outstanding plays by Paul Smith, at second and Harry Wren, chasing things down in right field, boosted Liverpool's confidence. Offensively, the Trojans had their chances, but were unable to break down the solid Met's defense.

The breakthrough for the Met's came in the top of the sixth inning. A well hit ground ball, narrowly missed by shortstop Ian Smith, ended up going through for a double following a bobbled ball in the outfield. The Met's cashed in the run on a big triple, which eventually became the go-ahead run.

Kyle Hickson replaced Josh Chetwin on the mound for the Met's, as London attempted to hold onto their one run lead. Hickson retired the side in order in the bottom of the sixth. This left one opportunity for a Trojans comeback in the bottom of the seventh.

A base hit for the excellent Dave Mercado and a walk for Martin Godsall gave the Trojans a real opportunity with no out's. Both runners stole a base to put the tying run on third, and the go-ahead run on second with only one out. However, it would be Hickson who came out on top, striking out the side to give London their place in the final.

The London Mets were eventually crowned British Champions, beating the Croydon Pirates 2 - 1 in the best of a three game final.

Once again though, the Liverpool Trojans have proved they can compete with the best teams in British baseball. Maybe next time..

Liverpool Trojans 3 - 6 Menwith Hill Patriots

Game Summary :

The Liverpool Trojans enjoyed the sights and sounds of the capital, not to mention the beer. So Sunday started a little slowly as the Trojans reluctantly took on the Menwith Hill Patriots to decide third and fourth place.

To sum up the game, Menwith Hill showed up with only eight players having lost one during the evenings festivities. They were awful, but we were worse. Maybe people had their mind on the long journey home, but we all had a good time anyway.

The full tournament results can be found on the BSUK website. more details..
